Joel Edwin Scott
Joel Edwin Scott, age 89, of Alcala de Henares (Madrid), Spain, died at his home on November 2, 2018.
Funeral services were held Nov. 3, 2018, in Alcala de Hernares (Madrid), Spain, next to his wife, Maria del Carmen Guerra Gil, who preceded him in death nine years ago.
Joel was born Jan.28, 1929, on the Scott Farm between Hardeman and Napton, in Saline County. He was the son of Joel Joseph Scott and Mary Anna Hutcherson Scott. Joel attended Fair Play, a one room country grade school and graduated from Marshall High School in 1947. He attended Missouri State Teachers College at Warrensburg for two years. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and retired as a master sergeant in 1974.
In September 1972, Joel married a widow, Maria del Carmen Guerra Gil, from Madrid, Spain. He subsequently adopted her three young sons, Jose, Juan, and Antonio. Maria died Jan. 30, 2009. Joel retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1974 and he and his family settled in Alcala de Henares, Spain, which is about 25 miles northeast of Madrid.
Joel is survived by his sons Jose (wife Pilar) Juan, and Antonio (wife Ana). He has four grandchildren Joel, Rebecca, Monica, and Esther. Joel is also survived by his sisters Mary Evelyn Younger, Dayton, Ohio; Marjorie S. Young, Jefferson City; and brother Milton H. Scott, Troy, OH. Joel was inurned with his wife in Spain.
