Which road are you on?
Read Matthew 7:13-14 “13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be find it.”
Which road are you on? Most people and so-called Christians, believe that the road to Heaven is not as narrow or strait as Jesus described it. Webster defines strait as, narrow, distress. Distress means suffering, misfortune, state of danger or great need. By this definition, the way to heaven and our future eternal home is one of trails of hardship and self-denial.
Listen to this story of a certain old or young man who had a little bit of wealth. He was lying on his deathbed having willed his estate to his wife and young child. He was asked this question by the young innocent child, “Daddy, do you have a nice home in the land to which you are going? That question was like an arrow in the father’s heart, because he felt he had no home to go in the land where he was going. All was dark to him, you see he was on the wrong road. Do you have a beautiful home to spend eternity in?
Our highways have signs which direct us to the destination for which we are headed. There are times though, when we fail to understand them and thus lose our way. We must then make an effort to go back and get on the right road again. So it is spiritually. In Romans 3:23 Paul wrote, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Therefore, we all must seek the right highway in life and then make an effort to stay on it with the help of God and the Bible. The Bible urges us to watch and to be prayerful that we stay on the right road. Jesus says “ye must be born again.” This is the way in which we first get on this royal highway to Heaven, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can follow the road map provided by God in his word (the Bible), for the human race. Jesus has prepared a heavenly mansion for those who are born again. In John 14:2 Jesus said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
God has provided signs to all the world, every nation, every tongue and every individual. Look at Isaiah 35:8 it says this, “And a highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.” John 1:9 says “That was the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.”
Are you following the signs? Is your vision good or is it dimmed or darkened through the deception of Satan in the world of today with a modern Jesus religion?
Another sign pointing us to the right way is the words of Jesus in Matthew 15:8 He said “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips; but their hearts is far from me.” This tells me that it takes more then just words of confession to be on the highway to Heaven. It must be from within the heart.
The Fatal Crossing
There is a time, we know not when, a place we know not where;
Which marks the destiny of man, for glory or despair.
There is a line by us unseen, that crosses every path;
The hidden boundary between God’s mercy and His wrath.
To pass that limit, is to die; to die as if by stealth,
It does not quench the beaming up, nor pale the glow of health.
The conscience may be still at ease, The spirit light and gay;
That which is pleasing, still may please, and care be thrust away.
Oh! Where is this mysterious bourne, by which our path is crossed?
Beyond which God Himself hath sworn, that he who goes is lost?
How long may I go in sin? How long will God forbear?
Where does hope end and where begin, the confines of despair?
An answer from the skies is sent, “Ye that from God depart, while it is called today, repent, and harden not your heart.”
Remember this, you are somewhere on life’s road to eternity. You are either lost or saved. Which are you? Check your signs along the way and consult the map God has provided for you his holy word — the Bible.
Are you on the strait and narrow road? If not, let plead with you to get on your knees and ask Jesus to come into your heart, confess your sins and be truly sorry for them and turn from them and follow Jesus. Let him show you the way that leads to that eternal home prepared for you. So that when the end comes you’ll here these beautiful words from Matthew 25:21 on that great day. “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
So which road are you on? The strait and narrow road which leads to life or the strait and broad road which leads to destruction. Only you and God know! Make your choice today to follow Jesus!
