Billy L. ‘Bill’ Crane
Billy L. “Bill” Crane, 79, of Slater, died Saturday, April 28, 2018, at the Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Slater Christian Church, with the Rev. Jess Spurgin officiating. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. at the church, with masonic services at 12:45 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Big Bend Retreat or Preferred Hospice in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born June 18, 1938, in Slater, he was the son of the late Lowell W. “Jack” and Nettie Garrett Crane. On Feb. 2, 1964, in Slater, he married Margaret Ann Deihl, and she survives of the home. Mr. Crane was a member and deacon of the Slater Christian Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member and past worshipful master of the Cambridge Masonic Lodge No. 63, A.F. & A.M. He had also served as a member of the Slater Ambulance Board. He retired in 1998 as a conductor with the Kansas City Southern Railroad after 37 years of service.
Also surviving is a son, William Linn Crane and his wife, Karen, of Overland Park, Kan.; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Griffith and her husband, Buddy, of Slater; five grandchildren, Braden Tyler Crane, Alexsis Nicole Dowell, Tristian Hardin Griffith, Haley Justine Crane and Cory James Sanders; four great-grandchildren, Braylon Phoenix Durham, Kamden Lowell Crane, Sawyer James Dowell and Nixon Charles Sanders; a brother, Bob Crane of Marshall; and a sister, Carol Thompson of Kansas City.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jaeger.
