The Marshall Public Library Board of Trustees met Tuesday, March 13, where Director Wicky Sleight was recognized for her many years of service at the library.

President Marsha Williams presented Sleight with a plaque on behalf of the board of trustees.

“This is Wicky’s last meeting,” Williams said. “I was thinking about all the service you’ve been at the library, from the very beginning ... and a number of members of the board were concerned that you realize that we appreciate all of your service. So, a small plaque of appreciation of your service.”

Sleight’s last day at the library will be Saturday, March 31.

In other reports, the board voted to approve the 2018 budget at Tuesday’s meeting, and heard the financial report. According to the library’s revenue and expense report, as of March, total revenue is at $233,622.59, and total expenses are at $104,916.88.

Sleight also presented the director’s report Tuesday evening, saying the library’s Genealogy Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 24, was a success.

Twenty-five people came from Marshall, Slater, Kansas City, Nelson, Houstonia, Sweet Springs, Glasgow, Columbia, New Franklin, Moberly and Higginsville to attend the workshop.

Sleight reported the library broke records for the year, in February, for adult non-fiction circulation and e-books.

All board members were present at Tuesday’s meeting. The Marshall Public Library Board of Trustees will meet again on Tuesday, April 10.
