Sedalia man charged with leaving scene of accident on US 65
The Saline County Prosecuting Attorney has charged Joseph Gardner Jr., 64, of Sedalia with leaving the scene of an accident after Gardner was involved in a crash Nov. 17.
A probable cause statement indicates the officer of record responded to a non-injury crash on U.S. Highway 65 at Mount Olive Road, learning that one of the drivers ó identified as Gardner ó had left the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was able to provide a partial registration number of the vehicle that struck his and advised the officer the other driver told him he was drunk, the report stated.
Troopers conducted a search of the area with negative results, according to the probable cause statement. A records check also indicated Gardnerís driving privileges were revoked.
The Pontiac that Gardner was driving was located at a Sedalia apartment later that night. Gardner reportedly admitted to leaving the scene.
He has been charged with two class E felonies, including leaving the scene of an accident-property damage exceeding $1,000 and driving while revoked/suspended, and a misdemeanor for operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, involving an accident.
