MPL talks new paint, search for new library director
Building and Grounds Committee Chairperson Diane Swift announced the Marshall Public Library has received bids from two companies in regard to painting interior walls of a meeting room, at a regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Bids came from Sheldon Hooper Construction in the amount of $860, and Toliver Painting and Refinishing for $2,211.22.
After lengthy discussion, The MPL Board of Trustees voted to accept the bid from Sheldon Hooper Construction.
The company will be hired to paint the walls and ceiling of the meeting room, along with removing the border and gutter.
Director Wickey Sleight said they are hoping to get the painting done before an event the MPL is holding in February.
“We are planning this fabulous program on Saturday, February 24, From 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. All of the lineage societies are going to come, and we will set up a tables for them...” Sleight said, “they are coming from everywhere to do this.”
Sleight added, “If you are interested in belonging to the Sons of Confederacy, and you want to know what you have to do, you can go to that table and talk to them. Same with Daughters of the Revolution.”
In other reports, MPL is seeking a new library director.
Search Committee Chairperson Deborah Hollrah reported they are in the process of searching for a new library director, with Sleight planning to retire by April 1.
Sleight announced her retirement three months ago.
Resumes were to initially be turned in by Jan. 30, but the date was moved to Feb. 9 at Tuesday night’s meeting.
It was unconfirmed where the position listing would be posted, but Hollrah said resumes should be sent to her at the Marshall Public Library, 214 N. Lafayette Ave.
According to the revenue and expense report, as of January, total revenue is at $35,588.27, and total expenses are at $61,712.03.
The Marshall Public Library Board of Trustees will meet again on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 5:15 p.m.
