Ruth was born on June 2, 1932, in Eldon, and was the daughter of the late John Skinner and Lucille Ford Skinner. On Dec. 18, 1959, she married Carl Dean Simmons in Tucson, Ariz., and this began a 24-year stint as a loyal military wife. During their time in the United States Air Force, they traveled to many of the states in the U.S., as well as a trip to Misawa, Japan. No matter how many moves, or to what location, she was always a strong and diligent woman who carried out her duties to hold the family together. Ruth always put her husband and children first. When they retired in 1983, they returned to Marshall to begin their new life in their hometown and settle down for good. While living in Marshall, Ruth was involved in the Community Food Pantry, and was always caring for other family members and friends. If you ever needed anything, at any time, she was there to lend a helping hand. Even though she was busy helping others, Ruth enjoyed raising flowers, tending a large garden, and canning from the garden to share with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have had their lives touched by her presence.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 58 years, Carl Dean Simmons, of the home; three children, Vickie Lynne Bigler and husband Myron of Marshall, Carl Wayne Simmons and wife Lorraine of Albuquerque, N.M., and Harold Ray Simmons and his companion, Sue Evans, of Marshall; five grandchildren, Melissa Hamblen and husband Gary, and Amanda Bigler, all of Oklahoma, Myron Bigler II and wife Marlo of Marshall, Jason Simmons and wife Kat, and Sean Simmons and wife Dani, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; six great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Sara, Haliey, Isaic, Makenna and Gunnar; two sisters, Bernice Underwood and Betty Newell; two brothers, Larry Skinner and Wesley Skinner; as well as nieces and nephews. In addition, Ruth had many close friends whom she considered part of her family, and loved just as dearly, including Jeff, Janice, Jeffery, Crystal, Justin and Brandy Bishop, all of Tennessee; and Terry, Vanessa, Zach, Cody, Shannon and Cole Rhodelander, all of Marshall.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lucille Skinner; and one sister, Paulette Fyock.
