Viola Korte Thurman Heislen, 92, of Marshall, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Boonville. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Great Circle-Tom Butterfield Campus, and an online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com.
Born Aug. 9, 1925, in rural Cooper County, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert A. Korte and Helena Sieckman Korte. In 1942, she married Robert Harold Thurman, who preceded her in death in 1949. On Oct. 12, 1957, she married Edmund J. Heislen, who preceded her in death on June 3, 1986. Vi lived in Saline County most of her life and worked as a waitress for many years, as well as retail businesses, including the Pop Shop in Marshall.
Survivors include five children, Jimmy Thurman and wife Rhonda of Marshall, Paul Thurman and wife Linda of Columbia, David Thurman and wife Sharon of rural Marshall, Janet Carmack and husband Bernie “Poodle” of rural Glasgow, and Gilbert Heislen and his companion, Linda, of Raymore; one brother, Roger Korte of Pilot Grove; one sister, Frances Adams of Marshall; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Thurman; five brothers, Fletcher “Buss” Korte, Walt Korte, Fritz “Boss” Korte, Ben Korte and June Korte; and four sisters, Hilda McClellen, Helen Cramer, Nadine Green and Vineda “Sis” Self.
