Letter to the editor
I have three siblings and we all live in different states. We stay in touch via texting. The following is a text I sent to them Sunday afternoon:
We just returned from a Christmas concert put on by the Marshall Philharmonic Orchestra and Community Chorus. The men all had on black tuxedos and the ladies comparable black formal attire. The performers included a lawyer, auto mechanic, audiologist, wife and daughter of the local funeral director, granddaughter of a local pharmacist, owner of local music store, and several active and retired school teachers. Those were just the ones we knew.
The only “professional musician” was the high school band instructor — he conducted. They played and sang all types of Christmas songs for an hour. Everyone of them was great! The price of admission was nonperishable food items for the local food pantry.
Small town America at its best!
