Dorothy Lu Giger Cook
Dorothy Lu Giger Cook, 103, of Marshall, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Marshall, with the Rev. Wayne Doolin officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Born Feb. 27, 1914, in Slater, Dorothy was the daughter of the late John M. Giger and LuElla Gray Giger. She was a 1932 graduate of Slater High School and lived in Marshall since 1935, moving from Slater. On Nov. 23, 1935, in Slater, she married William E. Cook, who preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1988. She worked as a tailor at Rose and Buckner’s in Marshall. She was a member of First Baptist Church and its Dorcas Sunday school class.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Barbara Cook of Marshall; four grandchildren, Michelle Synsteby, Tracy Cook, John Cook and Michael Cook; 10 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by one son, John Brent Cook; and five brothers, Sherman Giger, Dolphus Giger, Earl Giger in infancy, John Giger Jr. and C.W. “Bill” Giger.
