Exhibitors vie for championship in county fair sheep show

Exhibitors rounded the arena at the Saline County Fair Sheep Show Thursday morning, July 13, vying to show the championship lamb and ewe.

Judging the animals’ structure this year, as well as the exhibitors’ showmanship, was Brett Johnson, who studied the lines, condition, balance and more of the sheep.

Three competitors were awarded showmanship prizes. The junior champion was Gentrie Davis. The Intermediate champion title went to Simeon Buie, and Tyler Jenkins earned the title of senior champion in showmanship.

Other champion titles were awarded as follows:

Vivian Buie showed the champion dorset yearlig ram. Tyler Jenkins showed the champion Hampshire junior ewe, and Simeon Buie exhibited the reserve Hampshire junior ewe. Jenkins’ ewe was awarded the overall champion.

Vivian Buie showed the champion cross breed junior ewe lamb in her division, which was named the overall reserve champion, and Sophia Bolser showed the reserve champion cross breed aged ewe in her division.

Gage Davis exhibited the grand champion market lamb. Gentrie Davis exhibited the reserve champion market lamb.
