Carl Allen Propes
Carl Allen Propes, 89, of Tigard, Ore., and Austin, Texas, died May 20, 2017, in Portland, Ore., comforted by family.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, 2017, at 3 p.m., at Willamette National Cemetery with military honors in Portland, Ore.
Carl was born on Jan. 31, 1928, in Pottstown, Pa. He was married to Margaret McNair Propes, who survives of the home. Carl was a graduate of The Hill School in Pottstown, Pa. He graduated with a BS degree from Babson in Boston, Mass., and received postgraduate Banking Certificates from Rutgers University and Columbia. Carl was CEO and president of Northeastern Bank in Scranton, Penn., CEO of Wood County Bank in Parkersburg, W.Va., and CEO of the Cairo, W.Va., bank. He was a trustee of the University of Scranton and served as chairman of the board of Geisinger Medical Center. He was invited and served as a member of President Nixon’s Small Business Advisory Committee. Carl also worked as vice president for planning and administration at Caesars World, Century City, Cali. In 1987, he became an instructor in the Business Department at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, where he discovered the joy and fun of teaching for four years, before moving to Austin, Texas.
In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by two sons, Carl A. Propes Jr. of Anchorage, Ala., and Andrew Propes of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Alison Propes of Boulder, Colo.; a stepson, Jim Pileggi of Portland, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Tina Pileggi of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
