Author Cari Pointer to release second book in her ‘Hey Mom!’ series in New York City at Book Expo America in June
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI — St. Louis-based StoryBook Genius Publishing is pleased to announce that Cari Barnfield Pointer, of Marshall, will be releasing her second book in her popular illustrated children’s book series in New York City this June.
Cari will be giving a sneak-peak of her new book, “Hey Mom! Can I Be Big?,” and signing advance copies at several pre-release events in Marshall during the week of May 1.
In June, Cari will be appearing at back-to-back book conventions in New York City to promote her book when she makes appearances at Book Expo America June 1-2 and BookCon on June 3-4 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan.
Cari has two sons, whose antics provide inspiration for the main character, Kale, in her storybooks. The books, with their vibrant illustrations, tell a story any parent can relate to. They also demonstrate Cari’s motto: “Big dreams, no regrets!”
Cari’s first interest in becoming a writer was sparked by a creative writing class at Puxico High School. Following graduation from Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., she was employed first as a juvenile officer in Columbia, Mo., and then for the Missouri Children’s Division as a Program Development Specialist in Child Abuse and Neglect. Cari has worked to protect the welfare of children for over 17 years.
“My heart belongs in assuring the safety and well-being of children,” Cari said.
As she was raising her sons, Cari’s love of reading and writing was not forgotten. It just found a new outlet.
“I was talking to an old friend and mentioned that I had always wanted to write a children’s book — since high school,” she said. “They knew me back then and knew I loved to write. They said to go for it!”
That dream led her to StoryBook Genius Publishing, owned by entrepreneur Nate Hartung, whose company brings together writers with a talented team of illustrators and editors. Together, they produced this book series intended to encourage early language coding and literacy skills and give a voice to the funny moments that all parents experience when raising children.
“They offered to collaborate on the ‘Hey Mom’ concept,” Cari said. “It was so awesome getting that first book in my hands. And now I am releasing my second book in the series!
“I had a dream and I knew if I didn’t do it, I would regret it the rest of my life. So, I went for it, and the dream came true.”
The book is available now for pre-order in advance of the official release in New York City at Book Expo America. The book can be pre-ordered on the StoryBook Genius Publishing website at www.sbgpublishing.com
