Chiefs blank Sweet Springs, 11-0
SWEET SPRINGS -- Junior Carson Graf and senior Dobber Burton combined on a two-hit shutout Wednesday as the Santa Fe baseball game won an 11-0, six-inning contest at Sweet Springs.
Graf struck out seven batters in two-and-two-thirds innings of work. He was pulled after issuing back-to-back walks in the third inning, but Burton got out of that jam -- and three others, stranding seven runners on base.
Junior Matt Peters tripled in two Chief runs and scored on the front end of a double-steal in the second stanza. Sophomore Tanner Begemann doubled in a run in the third, senior Alex Smith did the same in fourth -- and came in on Graf's single -- and Santa Fe added three more runs in the fifth on Burton's bases-loaded double.
Senior Holden Bargfrede kept the game from continuing past the sixth inning with a two-run homer.
The Greyhounds (1-8) got one-out singles from freshman Hunter Sims and sophomore Nick Ortzian in the fourth inning. They will play at Slater on Monday.
The Chiefs (5-3), who were topped by Begemann's three hits, host Archie on Monday.
