Elizabeth Deer, 97, of Marshall, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at Golden Oaks Residential Care in rural Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with W.B. "Bart" Tichenor and Tom Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Zoar Cemetery. Born July 21, 1919, in Saline County, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late James Leslie Tichenor and Annie Lee Shannon Tichenor. She lived in Saline County most of her life and was a 1937 graduate of Napton High School. On Jan. 22, 1938, in Marshall, she married George Huston Deer, who preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1972. She worked as a ward clerk at Fitzgibbon Hospital from 1967 to 1991 and was a member of Gill Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Mace and husband Bob of Lee's Summit, Betty Lemmon and husband Robert T. of Miami, and Katie Anderson and husband Tom of Ash Grove; a son-in-law, Donald Kateman of rural Blackwater; nine grandchildren, Michael Kateman, Beth Blumhorst and husband Chris, Kimberly Ryan and husband Paul, R. Kent Mace and wife Linda, Timothy Lemmon and wife Janet, Krisy Wade and husband Stacey, Zachary Lemmon and wife Angela, Heidi Michaelis and husband Seth, and Ed Anderson and wife Meagan; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elizabeth was preceded in death by a son in infancy, James Samuel Deer; one daughter, Georgia Kateman; one sister, Louise Anderson; and three brothers, John, Harold and Bill Tichenor.
