County Commission approves 2017 budget
Saline County commissioners approved the 2017 budget during their regular meeting Tuesday morning, Feb. 7.
"As announced 10 days ago, we have laid the budget," Southern Commissioner Monte Fenner said. "It has been laid for 10 days."
During those 10 days, the public was able to view and comment on the budget in the county clerk's office. The budget was approved after no concerns were brought to the commissioners.
Fenner announced the courthouse will host its annual County Government Day on Friday, March 3, sponsored by five American Legion posts in Saline County. Between 60-75 students will hear introductions and presentations, tour the courthouse with in-office presentations by office holders, eat lunch at Missouri Valley College, and tour both the Saline County Justice Facility and the Saline County E9-1-1 building.
"We look forward every year to having that," Fenner said. "We thank all the (American Legion) posts here in Saline County for sponsoring that."
Northern Commissioner Richard Clemens announced that he attended the second Pioneer Trails Regional Planning Commission seminar on Monday, Feb. 6. He said that he, Pesiding Commissioner Kile Guthrey, Emergency Management Director Tony Day and Administrative Assistant Sharon Sheffer had worked on the county report of the Hazard Mitigation Plan, which was given to each of the cities in attendance at the meeting. He added that the next meeting with the committee will take place on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m., at ConAgra.
Commissioners also approved an addition of $23,978.06 in personal property and an abatement of $823.96 in real estate for the month of January.
