Tuesday, January 24, 2017
Hope for the Hungry, a Saline County Career Center DECA student group, presents a $1,148.40 check to Marshall Community Food Pantry Representative Ron Duvall (front row, center) Friday, Jan. 20. Project team leaders for the group are Wendy Cortes (holding right side of check), Selena Serrano (holding left side of check) and Clara Rouk (back row, behind Serrano). Funds were raised through students' efforts to gather canned goods and money for those in need. Fundraising and pay-it-forward events for the project included Sonic Drive-In Food Drive, Community Christmas Dinner, Intersection Collection, Meals for Peers, Change for Change Collection, Foothills Fest, Halloween Movie Night and more. "The DECA group learned about serving the community in addition to being role models to young students in the school district," a SCCC DECA press release states. "The students' goal was to show no matter how small or young you are you can make a difference and touch the hearts of many."
