Bateman dies after gunfire in Columbia (Updated at 8:50 a.m. Jan. 20)
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol news release, an autopsy was conducted on Thursday, Jan. 19, of Troy Bateman, 35, of Marshall, at the University of Missouri, by the Boone County Medical Examiner Office.
The autopsy showed the cause of death to be a single gunshot wound to the head, the report states. Based on the autopsy and investigation, the wound is consistent with a self-inflicted injury.
Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control are continuing to investigate.
Bateman was suspected of involvement in a shootout with a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer in Saline County on Friday, Jan. 13.
A prior release states the officers attempted to make a traffic stop of a black sedan on North Oakland Gravel Road, east of Alfalfa Drive in Columbia at approximately 2:20 p.m. Once the vehicle came to a stop, two females exited the vehicle, at which point the release states Bateman fired a shot from inside the vehicle, and two officers discharged their weapons.
Bateman was reportedly found deceased inside the vehicle, while neither the officers nor anyone else was harmed.
