January full moon appears

Friday, January 13, 2017
The first full moon of 2017 appeared Thursday, Jan. 12. The Old Farmer's Almanac says the January full moon has been known as the Wolf Moon or the Old Moon. According to folklore from the almanac, "A bright first Moon promises rain and a bountiful harvest; a red-tinted Moon means a dry year. A growing Moon and a flowing tide are lucky times to marry. A halo around the Moon predicts wet or stormy weather." A full moon occurs when the Earth, moon and sun line up, with Earth in the middle, Space.com says. This fully illuminates the lunar side.
