Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 04/18/2016
Receipts: 2783 Week Ago: 2281 Year Ago: 2403
Compared to last week, steer calves weighing 400-600 lbs sold mostly 10.00-
15.00 lower, with instances on the 5 weight steers 20.00 lower from last week’s
top; a light test of 600-700 lb steers traded 4.00-6.00 lower on comparable
sales. Steers and heifers over 700 lbs were not well tested on comparable
weights but traded with a lower undertone. Heifer calves weighing 400-600 lbs
sold 3.00-7.00 lower, spots 10.00 lower, with 600-700 lb heifers selling mostly
10.00 lower. Feeder cattle futures traded limit lower to start the week
pressuring the market. Slaughter cows accounted for near 12 percent of the
total receipts. The feeder supply was 55 percent steers, 45 percent heifers and
near 45 percent weighing over 600 lbs.
