Relay for Life calling all heroes for new 5K Run-Walk

Monday, March 7, 2016

You don't have to be as fast as the Flash to join the fight against cancer.

In a new event on the Saline County Relay for Life fundraising schedule, the Fitzgibbon Fighters Relay for Life team will host a Superhero 5K Run-Walk Saturday, April 2, at Indian Foothills Park.

The race will begin at 10 a.m. at the Lion's Shelter House. Entrants are encouraged to participate in costume and help "Save the World.. Paint it Purple!" by painting a banner at the finish line. If they would like, participants can paint the banner with a brush, leave their mark with a handprint or a splatter, or even write a message for someone in their life with cancer. The race will be timed for those who wish to measure their performance.

Participants are encouraged to pre-register by March 23 to guarantee they receive a t-shirt. Interested parties can still register as late as the day of the event when race-day registration begins at 9 a.m.

A variety of superheroes will be available to pose for photos at the event. Prizes will be awarded for the best costume.

"It doesn't' have to be a fictional superhero," Fitzgibbon Fighters team member Heather Bourbon said. "It can be a real life one."
