County Commission discusses brush clearing, candidate filing

Thursday, March 3, 2016

The Saline County Commission met in regular session Thursday, March 3, to discuss a few administrative needs for the county and ongoing projects.

Southern Commissioner Monte Fenner reported the road and bridge crew has finished part of the brush-clearing project on 160th road, and said the banks are shaped and the road has been graveled. He noted the crew should be finished with the project soon and said all together the job only took about a week--one less than projected.

Also during the meeting, the commission approved a liquor application from Elizabeth Huff of Catalpa in Arrow Rock, as well as two letters of destruction for a wooden desk and a filing cabinet.

Northern Commissioner Charlie Guthrie noted the county has received a net gain of $2,875.23 to the personal property book, and County Clerk Debbie Russell reported three more candidates have filed for county positions: Leo Grothaus, Republican, for sheriff, Shelly Walter, Democrat, for assessor and Kevin Mikels, Democrat, northern commissioner.

The next Commission meeting will be 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 8.
