MVC repertory dance performance continues through Saturday
Using movement as a means of communication, the Missouri Valley College repertory dance ensemble hosted the opening night of its three-night run Thursday, Feb. 18. The ensemble provides performance, choreographic and pre-production opportunities for students throughout the year, according to MVC's website. The ensemble's repertoire consists of modern, jazz, ballet, tap, hip-hop and ethnic dance works.
"I am very proud of the accomplishments the students have achieved this year, and we are all very excited to share it with our audience this weekend," Associate Professor of Dance Janie Morgan said.
The concert features choreography by guest choreographer Moreno Zanandre, an original composition by MVC Student Justin Weathers, and an alumni dance. Those attending Friday evening's performance will have an opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with the dancers and choreographers.
Diana Malan, chair of the college's Division of Fine Arts, said the concert had a nice blend of styles and originality.
"It takes a great deal of work for eight dancers to do a big evening show such as this, but under the direction of Janie Morgan, artistic director, (they) did a wonderful job with the pieces," she noted.
Performances continue at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Eckilson-Mabee Theatre, and are free and open to the public.
