MVC to host "READ from the START" program

Missouri Valley College will host a 'READ from the START' session Thursday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. in the Murrell Library Commons, located on the MVC campus in the Tech Center.

The event is open to the any and all parents, caregivers and grandparents interested in learning ways to introduce books and reading to the children in their lives. Childcare and refreshments will be provided.

Participants will receive five free books that they will be able to keep and take home to read to their children.

The books are: "Goodnight Moon," by Margaret Wise Brown; "A Chair for My Mother," by Vera B. Williams; "Mouse Count," by Ellen Stoll Walsh; "The Snowy Day," by Ezra Jack Keats; and "Gregory, the Terrible Eater," by Mitchell Sharmat.

According to the Missouri Humanities Council website, 'READ from the START' is a reading program that teaches parents and caregivers the benefits of reading to children from birth to 5 years of age.
