ALL ABOARD!! Amtrak Station in Carrollton?
We are so fortunate in Marshall to be able to drive 30 minutes to Sedalia and catch an Amtrak train to St. Louis or Kansas City.
Now the city of Carrollton is working with Amtrak to make Carrollton a regular station stop for The Southwest Chief -- Amtrak's Superliner which runs from Los Angeles to Chicago. The Southwest Chief is one of Amtrak's premier trains, complete with sleeping cars, an observation/lounge car, and a dining car offering restaurant-style meals served on white linen tablecloths.
Wouldn't it be great to board a train in Carrollton around 9 a.m., arrive in Chicago at 3 p.m., have overnight and most of the next day to explore Chicago and be back in Carrollton before 9 p.m.?
There will be an informational meeting held at the Rupe Center in Carrollton on Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Amtrak officials and Sen. David Pearce will speak and explain what needs to be done to proceed with this project. There will also be a question and answer period.
This opportunity to add another passenger rail stop to Missouri's 12 existing stations would be great for our region!
A presence from the Marshall area to help "pack the house" on Aug.12 would be a great show of support. The Rupe Center is located at 710 Harvest Hills Dr., just east of U.S. Highway 65 in Carrollton.
There is also a letter-writing campaign underway if you are not able to attend the meeting. Letters of support can be mailed to: Carrollton Area Economic Alliance (or C.A.E.A.) 1 South Main, Suite 1, Carrollton, MO 64633, or via e-mail at email@example.com.
