Mid-day crash on I-70 injures one July 1

A Cleveland, Mo., man was injured in a vehicle accident at the 80-mile marker on Interstate 70, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

The accident occurred when a 2005 Chevrolet -- driven by Joshua D. Mathews, 36, of Cleveland -- was traveling eastbound on I-70 and overtook and struck a 2007 Dodge driven by Constantin D. Birsan, 34, of Woodstock, Ga., in the rear of the vehicle.

After impact, the Chevrolet traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck the median post and came to rest in the median.

The Dodge traveled off the right side of the road and came to rest in the ditch. Mathews was transported to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia by Saline County EMS.

Saline County Ambulance and Marshall Fire Department assisted at the scene.
