The Marshall Writers Guild met April 16
The Marshall Writers Guild met Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Marshall Public Library. Authorene Phillips facilitated the meeting. Those present were: Ed Richards, Irene Sims, Carole Schaefer, Pat Hammer, Virginia Spriggs, Julie Ellis, Penny Athon and Carol Raynor.
Schaefer and Phillips reported on the Missouri Writers Guild planning meeting held in Columbia. As it is the 100th anniversary of the organization, plans were discussed for programming in the future.
A representatives took copies of members' writings and records from the Marshall Guild meetings to the State of Missouri Historical Society historical manuscript section in Ellis Library on the University of Missouri campus. Phillips plans to collect historical data about the formation of the Marshall Writers Guild. Membership in the Missouri Writers Guild is available to published authors. Associate membership is available for writers who have self-published or who write in non-professional roles.
The group discussed plans for the Writers Workshop Saturday, April 25. Josť Faus will speak on "Developing Depth in Your Writing," at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Coffee and registration will be held at 9:30 a.m. and a free lunch will be provided at noon. Walmart and the Missouri Writers Guild are sponsors of this workshop. Terry Humphrey, of MPL, will speak at the May meeting on the possible usefulness of the genealogy collection for writers. The writing prompt will be: Observations in a cafe from the point of view of the server or other customers.
