Boonville - Missouri Valley Commission Company: Cattle Auction Report for 4/14/15

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Receipts: 1174 Week Ago: 280 Year Ago: 333

Compared to the last tested market two weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers
under 600 lbs sold 4.00 to 9.00 higher. Heavier weights traded with a sharply
higher undertone on very light comparisons. Slaughter cows 2.00 to 3.00 higher.
A standing room only crowd was on hand as Missouri Valley Commission Company
hosted the 7th Annual Missouri Livestock Marketing Association Auctioneering
Contest. Buyers, sellers and onlookers were privileged to hear seven of the best
auctioneers from livestock barns throughout the state compete for cash prizes,
trophy buckles and the chance to be named the best in Missouri. When the final
scores were tallied, Leon Caselman of Long Lane, MO, was declared the Champion
and went right to work calling the rest of the sale. The contest created an
exciting atmosphere and highlighted the success and importance of our state’s
livestock marketing through true price discovery. Supply heavy and demand good.
Cows and bulls accounted for 11 percent of the total offering. The feeder supply
consisted of 53 percent steers and bulls and 47 percent heifers; 50 percent of
all the feeder cattle weighed over 600 lbs.
