MALTA BEND -- For the second time in as many weeks, and third time this season, the Malta Bend boys' and girls' basketball teams swept Breckenridge during Thursday's home doubleheader.

Freshman Lynzi Miller opened the evening by scoring 25 points during the Lady Tigers' decisive 53-19 win. Miller hit four shots during the first quarter as Malta Bend got off to a 10-2 start, then sophomore Taylor Burton tallied seven of her team's 21 points during the second period to head into halftime with a 22-point lead.

The Lady Tigers kept Breckenridge (0-18) at bay with a 23-10 second half.

Burton finished with 11 points and senior Kayla Kiehl added 10 for Malta Bend (7-9).

The Tigers took command early in the boys' contest for a 57-51 victory, their fourth in the last five games.

The Bulldogs (0-16) made it respectable in the fourth quarter, when sophomore Wesley Pratt scored 12 of his game-high 36 points.

Malta Bend led by 21 points at intermission, though. Senior Tyler Jenkins hit a pair of three-pointers during the first period and sophomore Lucas Eberting tallied 11 of his 21 points during the second frame.

Jenkins and Larry Edde both wound up with 13 points for the Tigers (6-10), who host Hale on Friday.
