Boonville - Missouri Valley Commission Company: Cattle Auction Report for 12/16/14

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

Receipts: 708 Week Ago: 323 Year Ago: 772

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers 8.00 to 10.00 lower with
many 15.00 lower. Slaughter cows steady to 3.00 higher. A standing room only
crowd was on hand for the month Special Cow Sale, and while there were no large
strings of bred cows or pairs available, there were plenty of small groups and
single head lots for buyers to put together as they saw fit. The feeder cattle
market continues to feel the pressure with Live and Feeder Cattle futures
closing limit (3.00) down again Tuesday, lower boxed beef and sharply lower fat
cattle trade the last two weeks. While many are questioning if beef demand is
waning going into 2015 itís hard to say if that is the whole story or if the
pressure is due at least in part to the fact that many families turn to other
meat sources during the holiday season. Either way, most market participants are
ready to take a step back and let the dust of a record-setting year settle
before beginning again. Supply and demand moderate. Cows and bulls accounted for
58 percent of the total offering. The feeder supply consisted of 42 percent
steers and bulls and 58 percent heifers; 56 percent of all the feeder cattle
weighed over 600 lbs.

***Scheduling Note: This is this last sale of 2014 at Missouri Valley Commission
