Ryan Smith, Tristian Griffith and Christian Venable teach third grade students about honey.

On Tuesday, Sept. 9, 18 freshmen members (Dalton Gari, Bryant Smith, Rylan Grimes, Jaylee Hazell, Rachael Bagnell, Jordan McDaniel, Rylea Meyer, Cameron Day, Spencer Wilson, Chandler Lee, Cole England, Kaih Lawson, Tyler Finley, Brady Reed and Johnny Johnson) and seven sophomore members (Brice Beshers, Seth Ferguson, Landyn Kennedy, Dalton

Griffith, Kenzie Miller, Jen Peel and Dallas Kirby) attended the Area 6 FFA Leadership Conference in Marshall. The freshmen (greenhand) students had the opportunity to meet with National FFA Southern Region Vice-President Jackson Harris and listen to his motivating words about opportunities in the FFA Organization and also broke out into different workshop stations with the Area 6 officer team where the freshmen learned about SAE projects, CDEs, camp and various other events. The sophomore (chapter degree) students also had the opportunity to meet Harris and dug deeper into the possibilities of involvement in the FFA over their next three years in FFA with the Area 6 officer team and State Secretary Nora Farris. Every member enjoyed the event and spoke of the knowledge gained and friendships made from all 17 schools involved in the event.

During the weekend of Sept. 18-20, Slater FFA members joined the Slater community to take part in and work various booths at the Slater Fall Festival. The chapter took pride in saluting and helping local veterans with the mini-Vietnam Wall Memorial Ceremony on Sept. 20. Eight Slater FFA members (Tristian Griffith, Ryan Smith, Christian Venable, Spencer Peel, Shovey Jackson, Shelby Bagnell, Albert Foster and Jen Peel) held various flags of the military branches as Mayor Stephen Allegri and former State Representative Joe Aull spoke to the veterans and their families at a short salute on that Saturday morning.

On the afternoon of Sept. 20, Slater FFA members and their parents took part in serving the annual Slater FFA Ice Cream Social at the Video Vision lot. More than 300 community members, FFA supporters and guests to Slater came out and enjoyed ice cream and cake made by FFA members' families. The chapter would like to thank everyone for their support and C & R Market and Video Visions for assisting in making the Ice Cream Social run smoothly.

On Sunday, Sept. 28, the Slater FFA held its first annual program of activity planning day along with its annual washer tournament.

The POA day was to help lay out the chapter's numerous activities throughout the school year, to set goals for the events and to strengthen the chapter POA for state competition. After working in committees and enjoying pizza as they worked, the fellow members competed in a washers tournament that was won by Jordan Allen and Lawton Johnson. The chapter wrapped up a busy month and looks forward to October which will bring on National FFA Convention, Barnyard Day and food drive for the Saline County Holiday Project and other events.
