Mary E. Barnes, 98, of Marshall, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall, with Fr. Kevin Gormley officiating. Prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall with visitation following from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Born Feb. 4, 1916, in Shackelford, she was the daughter of the late Matthew Taaffe and Mary Brick Taaffe. She was a graduate of Mercy Academy in Marshall. On Feb. 3, 1940, she married Leonard H. Barnes, who preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1997. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, its Altar and Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of The Monday Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann Piper of Marshall; four grandchildren, Cherri Halsey-Williams and her husband, Dave, Carri Piper, Kendi Piper-Deal and her husband, Jeremy, and Grant Piper; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan Williams, Nathanial Williams, Brittan Williams, Cody Hedrick, Macy Neff, Regan Deal and Logan Deal; one sister, Katie Hayob of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers; and one sister.
