Attorney General Koster endorses Amendment 1
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Accompanied by representatives of Missouri's major agricultural organizations, Attorney General Chris Koster today announced his support for Constitutional Amendment 1, also known as the "Right to Farm" amendment.
In stating his support for Amendment 1 Koster said, "The Right to Farm Amendment will ensure that agricultural production in Missouri is always economically competitive with other states across the country. This amendment ensures Missouri farming methods are not subject to extreme regulations that damage our state's number one industry."
Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst, Missouri Farmers Care Chairman Don Nikodim and other agricultural leaders were also at the press conference. Hurst and Nikodim both expressed their appreciation for Koster's endorsement of the amendment.
"Unfortunately there is misinformation being spread about Amendment 1. Having Attorney General Koster's support will help communicate that this amendment is about ensuring the future economic viability of Missouri's family farmers and ranchers and continuing to provide consumers food choices," Hurst and Nikodim agreed.
Amendment 1 is on the Aug. 5, 2014 ballot and reads in its entirety as follows: "That agriculture which provides food, energy, health benefits, and security is the foundation and stabilizing force of Missouri's economy. To protect this vital sector of Missouri's economy, the right of farmers and ranchers to engage in farming and ranching practices shall be forever guaranteed in this state, subject to duly authorized powers, if any, conferred by article VI of the Constitution of Missouri."
