Edna R. Giger, 102, of Columbia, formerly of Slater, died Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, with Fr. Richard Frank officiating. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater, with recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Born Feb. 6, 1912, in Slater, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas J. and Mary Kruse Giger. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater and the church's altar and rosary sodality. She was a longtime member of the Business and Professional Women's organization in Slater. She worked at the Saline County Courthouse for more than 30 years, first in the prosecuting attorneys office and then as Saline County Circuit Clerk from 1954 until 1978. She moved to Columbia from Slater in 2007.

She is survived by a sister, Ella Yontz of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Giger and Joe Giger; and three sisters, Stella Giger, Freda Giger and an infant stillborn sister.
