Baseball: Santa Fe 17, Lutheran 6
ALMA -- The fourth-ranked Santa Fe baseball team scored in double digits for the third game in a row Tuesday during a 17-6, five-inning home rout of Kansas City Lutheran.
The Chiefs put up crooked numbers in each of the first three innings, including five in the first -- two on junior Truman Sleeper's homer. They only needed four hits to score eight runs in the second, sophomore Ryan Cox stroking a two-run single for the first of those. Santa Fe drew eight walks during the rally.
The first six batters in the third also walked, three of them coming in before senior Keaton Graf smacked his third run-scoring hit of the game.
Meanwhile, Graf was rolling along, striking out nine of the first 13 batters he faced and not allowing a hit before a dropped fly ball with two outs in the fourth opened the floodgates for the Knights (4-5). They scored four runs, three on bases-loaded walks, before Sleeper relieved.
Freshman Garrett Herrick plated two runs with a single, but Sleeper got out of the jam and finished the game with three straight strikeouts.
The Chiefs (6-4) take a four-game winning streak into Monday's home game against Sacred Heart.
