Wansing and Willis crowned 2013 Barnwarming royalty
The Marshall FFA chapter held their annual Barnwarming at the Saline County Fairground's Vanderlinden Building on Oct. 5. There was a meal provided by the FFA Alumni and prepared and served by Phil Giffon and Rob Latimer. The dinner consisted of a whole hog and rolls. The FFA members were asked to bring one to two side dishes. The dinner was for both the FFA members and their families.
After the dinner there was a dance. To attend the dance, FFA members were asked to bring in three canned goods or $3 per person. The canned food was donated to the local food pantry and the $180 collected was given to the local Special Olympics basketball team to help with expenses for their upcoming trip.
During the dance, members also had the opportunity to participate in group activities, including the Oreo challenge, Protect the Hankie, hoola hoop challenge, and pass the orange. Prizes were awarded for those that participated in the Barnwarming week activites. In addition, there was a bonfire that the members were able to use to cook s'mores.
In order to be a king or queen candidate, a member had to be a senior in good standing. The seniors that ran for king included: Kyle Mullins, Jacob Davis, Caleb Willis, and Mason Sandige. The queen candidates were Katie Wansing, Kayla Elson, Kinzie Miller, and Elizabeth Borges. The King and Queen for the 2013 Barn warming were Caleb Willis and Katie Wansing.
