Letter to the Editor: YMCA has been a life saver

Friday, October 25, 2013

I don't know what I would do without the YMCA. When I heard they were putting in an inside pool I was ecstatic. For you see, I was a polio survivor, and I wanted another exercise to take the place of walking. Many people who have had polio also have arthritis. Not only did I have arthritis, but I had Polymyalgia Rheumatica. I think all the muscles in my body ached. Water aerobics has been a life saver.

I have met so many friends. I have been going to the Y since it was built, and I haven't missed many days. My husband said, "How do you know so many people," and I proudly say, "I go to the Y." People who attend the Y help each other. I cannot put in words the way I have been helped and encouraged.

I just wish more towns had a Y like ours.
