MMU tables 2013-2014 budget until September meeting

Thursday, August 29, 2013

Administrative Services Director Ken Gieringer presented the 2013-2014 budget to the Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works at the meeting Thursday, Aug. 29.

Gieringer noted the budget includes a 10 percent increase in water revenue effective Jan. 1, 2014. He said they need to work on paying back the money from the $6 million dollar project at the waste water plant.

The board decided to table the budget until the September meeting.

A request from Environmental Services Director Ginny Ismay to have Tomcat Consultants, as a subcontractor of Shafer, Kline and Warren, to perform construction observation of the painting project was approved for $44,813.

General Manager Kyle Gibbs noted the observation was like an insurance policy to make sure the paint coatings were administered correctly.

There was a large discussion about the necessity of having someone observe the work, but the majority of the board voted to accept the proposal.

The board also approved a bid from Ditch Witch Sales in Sullivan for a mini skid steer and attachments for $38,201. The attachments are a bucket, trencher, backhoe and a backfill blade.

The board approved cash disbursements and adjourned from the meeting into executive session for legal and personnel matters.

The next regular board meeting will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, and it will be the only meeting in September.
