2 hurt in I-70 crash early Monday

Monday, June 17, 2013

Two Iowa residents were injured shortly after midnight Monday, June 17, in a one-vehicle traffic accident on Interstate 70 in Saline County, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

The driver, Nathaniel J. Yelle, 19, of Leon, Iowa, suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Sweet Springs Ambulance to Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall for treatment.

A passenger, Eva R. Roberts, 18, of Lamoni, Iowa, suffered minor injuries and declined treatment at the scene, troopers said.

The accident occurred when Yelle apparently fell asleep, troopers said. The 2003 Pontiac Aztec he was driving went off the left side of the roadway and struck the median cable.

Roberts was wearing a safety device. Yelle was not, according to the report.

Saline County sheriff's deputies assisted at the scene.
