Boonville-Missouri Valley Commission Company: Cattle Auction Report for 4/16/2013

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Receipts: 621 Last Week: 1008 Year Ago: 610

Compared to last week on a light test, steers and heifers under 600 lbs
4.00-7.00 lower with instances as much as 10.00 lower, steers over
600 lbs 3.00-6.00 lower, not enough heifers over 600 lbs for a price
comparison. Slaughter cows mostly steady. The area has received substantial
rainfall curtailing receipts and hampering delivery of cattle. Additionally,
the continued cool and wet weather has the crop farmers twiddling their
thumbs waiting for the ground to dry up. Still market pressures are keeping
the feeder cattle market subdued compared to what some “experts” thought were
going to be another spring of near record prices or at least close to it. Demand
moderate. Supply light with 20 percent cows. The feeder supply consisted of
58 percent steers and bulls and 42 percent heifers with 35 percent of the
receipts weighing over 600 lbs.
