Saline County sheriff's deputies and Coroner Willie Harlow are investigating the death early Wednesday, April 3, of a 3-month-old infant at a rural Sweet Springs residence.
According to a Sheriff's Department report, a call reporting the child was not breathing came in just before 2 a.m.
When a deputy arrived, Sweet Springs EMS crew members were on scene and advised Harlow had been notified. The child was on the living room floor, covered by a blanket, according to the report.
Sheriff Wally George said an autopsy would be performed, and the mandatory child death review board would be convened soon.
The board is required by law to review the circumstances surrounding the death of children under 16 years old.
George said the investigation would continue.
