County crews work on road maintenance

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Saline County Road and Bridge Supervisor Justin Cowart said his crew will be cleaning culverts in the southwestern part of the county.

"We need to get that cleaned up, get the brush out of it before the next thunderstorm or rain storm comes through," Cowart said at the Saline County Commission Tuesday, March 19, meeting.

He said crews will also haul rocks this week and get some roads graded Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, weather permitting.

Southern District Commissioner Monte Fenner said county roads seemed to be in good condition.

"I was on some of the county roads yesterday and they are in better shape than I thought they'd be," Fenner said. "They really settled down."

"The rain was a big help," Cowart replied.

In other commission news, Northern District Commis-sioner Charlie Guthrie thanked Bill Sleeper and other county employees for collaborating in getting the names of the veterans depicted in photos that are hanging in the courthouse lobby.

"I want to thank our county employees for helping us with that project," Guthrie said of the photographs, which include group photos of World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq War veterans.

"The picture gallery up there is now complete, at least for this round," Guthrie said.

The commissioners met with representatives from Naught Naught Insurance Agency after their meeting to discuss next year's health care coverage plan for county employees.

  • I think Mr Fenner needs to drive Mount Olive Road East of Highway 65 going toward Napton.. There are so many potholes there is nowhere to go to avoid them. Yes they dumped gravel out here but they sure didn't fill in any holes!
