The top-ranked GVU Vikings reeled off six wins in a row for a 20-6 lead after dropping the first two bouts to the No. 10 MVC Vikings -- who got an 11-9 decision by 14th-ranked freshman Ryan Stearns at 125 pounds and 12-6 win from No. 10 sophomore Logan Welch at 133.
The next five Grand View grapplers came in ranked fifth or better -- getting decisions over top-15 Valley entries from Gustavo Martinez (141 pounds), junior Chad Lowman (157) and sophomore Jimmie Schuessler (165) and major decisions against unranked Vikings from sophomore Isaiah Tatum (149) and junior Thomas Moman (174).
A 7-4 decision at 184 pounds by No. 10 sophomore Christian Mays completed the visitors' run before No. 5 junior Josh Manu (196) ended Valley's skid with the first pin of the contest. Second-ranked junior Eric Thompson (285) won the final bout for Grand View (10-0) by fall.
The Vikings (5-5) will be back on their home mat Sunday for the MVC Open.
