Slater woman killed in head-on collision early Saturday

A Slater woman died Saturday as a result of injuries she received when the vehicle she was driving collided with another vehicle on state Highway 240, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

Rechilda A. Sample, 65, was taken by air ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia. She was later pronounced dead, troopers said.

The driver of the other vehicle, Angel Santiago Gonzalez, 52, of Marshall, suffered serious injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Research Hospital in Kansas City.

The crash occurred about 4:45 a.m. just north of the intersection with state Highway 41 south.

Sample was not wearing a safety device. Gonzalez was wearing a safety device, according to the report.

Saline County sheriff's deputies and Marshall police officers assisted at the scene.
