MMU approves bids, finishes modifications to recycling belt conveyor

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

The Marshall Municipal Utility Board of Public Works had a quick meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at which they approved bids from George's Heating & Cooling and Gray Bar Electric.

The board approved a bid from George's Heating & Cooling for $14,210.00 to provide and install replacement air conditioners at the MMU offices.

A bid from Gray Bar Electric for $7,502.40 for rubber sleeves, sleeve bags and harness to be delivered in 80 days.

"Getting these will make line work much safer," Jeff Bergstrom, electric distribution director, said. "That and the policy we passed previously."

The recycling center belt conveyor modifications are finished.

"We had a chance to try that out last week with the confidential paper," Jim Johnson, electric production director, said.

MMU previously pelleted confidential paper from banks and other businesses in the area that have stipulations about how they can get rid of confidential documents. Johnson was concerned processing the paper this way wouldn't meet those requirements.

The process now takes 10 minutes instead of almost 30 minutes.

"We could have several more customers show up at once and nobody has to wait as long," Johnson said.

Minutes of the Jan. 2, meeting and paying of the bills were approved. All members were in attendance.

The next regular meeting of the MMU Board of Public Works will be on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 8:30 a.m.
