Arrow Rock Lyceum announces audition schedule for 2013 season

Friday, January 11, 2013

There are several casting opportunities for young people this season, according to Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre officials. Directors will be auditioning actors for those and other parts in the theater's 53rd season.

In "The Wizard of Oz" the Lyceum is seeking confident young local singer/dancers/gymnasts to play munchkins, flying monkeys, jitterbugs, Ozians, etc., according to a news release from the theater.

In "Fiddler on the Roof," the theater will need two young actors aged 10-14 to play Tevye's youngest daughters, Shprintze and Bielke. Strong singers who move well will have the best chance at those parts.

In "Meet Me In St. Louis," two pivotal roles are available, Agnes and Tootie Smith. For Agnes, directors hope to find an excellent singer/actress who appears to be 12 years old. The part could be cast a bit older to play the younger age. For Tootie, directors hope to find an excellent singer/actress who appears to be 6 years old. They will likely cast older to play the younger age, theater officials said.

In "The Nerd," the Lyceum is seeking an exceptional young actor (10-14) to play the "unabashed brat," Thor.

Local auditions will be held at the Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre Saturday, Feb. 16, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If necessary, additional audition dates will be added. Appointments for these auditions can be made by emailing a picture and resume to lyceumtheatre@lyceumtheatre.org.

Actors should specify if there is a time of day that works best and indicate if there are specific roles for which they would like to be considered.

When sending material by email, include "Arrow Rock Audition" in the subject line.

Each person auditioning must prepare 16 bars of two contrasting songs and one brief monologue. An accompanist will be provided.

Children under the age of 10 may audition with 16 bars of one song and no monologue if they are only interested in ensemble positions.

Anyone who is not a singer may perform a monologue only.

The Lyceum is seeking equity and non-equity actors of all ages and ethnicities. A dance call will take place at the end of the audition day.

Along with the local auditions, the Lyceum will participate in the MidWest Theatre Auditions in St. Louis Feb. 22-24. Information on these auditions can be found at www.webster.edu/depts/finearts/theatre/m...
