On Thursday, Jan. 10, C&R Markets in Slater had a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m.
"We are very pleased with the opening," President, CEO and part owner of the franchise Mark Thomas said. "There were probably 40 plus people here for the ribbon cutting and we're really thrilled."
Customers were able to shop at C&R Markets throughout the day and sign up for customer loyalty cards.
"We have our C&R rewards card, it's a loyalty card where we reward the customers with points for every dollar they spend with us and those points can be redeemed for merchandise throughout the store," Thomas said.
Other than the rewards card, customers can sign up for a texting program to receive "super one day deals."
Thomas said he was pleased with the turn out so far on Thursday.
"Comments from the customers have been fantastic," he continued. "We have been very well received in the community. Everybody's been very gracious and thrilled that we're here. Some people know us because we have 12 other stores."
An expanded produce section, regrouping things to the way the are at other C&R Markets stores, a beer and liquor section and the "Pick 5 for $25" specials are some changes Thomas said the company has made over the past week and a half.
"We started work about a week and a half ago in here on the store and it's been a mad rush for the past three or four days trying to get it open," Thomas said with a laugh. "I was maybe a little optimistic setting the date of Jan. 10, but we wanted to get the store open as soon as possible."
Thomas also noted C&R Markets is working with a local company to create a new sign for the front of the store; one that would be more permanent than the banner currently hanging there.
