The Marshall wrestling team got the home mats warmed up for its upcoming tournament with a pair of dual wins Thursday.

The Owls knocked off Tipton, 60-15, before claiming their first NCMC victory of the season by beating Boonville, 60-21.

Marshall won eight of 11 bouts against the Cardinals (0-6), all by fall. Getting first-period pins for the Owls were freshman Aaron Sims (132 pounds); juniors Canaan Heinzler (138) and Chris Stephenson (152); and seniors Nick Harper (160), Austin Stickels (182) and Berry Benedick (285).

Junior Tyler Eidson (195) won in the second frame and junior Tyler Morrison (145) got a third-period pin.

Marshall took six of nine contests from the Pirates (3-11, 0-3 NCMC), all wins again by fall: Morrison, Harper, Benedick and Heinzler in the first two minutes and Eidson and Sims in the second.

The Owls (7-7, 1-2) will host the 40th annual Marshall Invitational on Saturday.
