Seven elected officials were sworn into office Wednesday morning by County Clerk Debbie Russell.

The officials sworn in were County Sheriff Wally George (D), Public Administrator Paula Barr (D), County Assessor Margaret Pond (D), Northern District Commissioner Charlie Guthrie (D), County Treasurer Marty Smith (R), County Surveyor Robert Robinson (I) and Southern District Commissioner Monte Fenner (D).

The ceremony transpired at the Saline County Courthouse with several other elected officials and county citizens as audience.

"We're an example for the county," Russell said of elected officials before reciting the oath. "We're officeholders 24/7, not just when we're in this building."

Russell told the officials to keep many things in mind while taking the oath.

She said officeholders need to uphold the highest values, serve the public as a servant, be able to serve without being served in return, and act as good stewards of the tax-payers dollars.
