Dessie Stafford, Missouri Valley College associate professor of business, authored a tax article, The Affordable Care Act Brings Changes to Health Flexible Spending Arrangements, that will be published in January in The Asset, a magazine of the Missouri Society of CPA's.
The article explains how the Affordable Care Act limits employees to $2,500 per year in health flex account contributions and how health flex accounts are being transitioned under the new rules. The article addresses risks to the employer when an employee uses their entire contribution early in the year and is then terminated. It also discusses the risks to employees if they have not yet used all of their contributions for the year when their employment is terminated.
"I am proud of Dessie and all that she does," said Dr. Sharon Weiser, MVC vice president of academics. "She is a wonderful asset to the institution."
